Privacy Policy

What we collect, why we collect it, and the control you have over it. Verification only works if you trust us with your data, so we’ve kept this clear.

01Who we are

This Privacy Policy explains how Milann (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal data when you use the Milann app, milann.app, and related services (the “Service”). Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (the “DPDP Act”), Milann is the Data Fiduciary for this data.

The short version: we collect what we need to verify that members are real, suggest compatible matches, and keep chats safe. We never sell your personal data, and other members never see your government ID or verification data.

02Data we collect

When you join the beta on milann.app

  • Your name and email address.
  • A copy of that sign-up, saved in your browser’s local storage on that device.

When you create and use your account

  • Account details — the phone number or email address you sign up with.
  • Profile — your name, age, gender, height, city, religion, personality, bio, photos, professional details such as your job title and workplace, and what you’re looking for.
  • Compatibility details — Vedic astrological information you choose to provide, such as your date, time, and place of birth.
  • Activity — likes, matches, messages, blocks, and reports.

When you verify your profile

  • Face and liveness data — a live 3D selfie and facial geometry, used to confirm you’re a real person, that your photos show the same person, and that images aren’t AI-generated or manipulated.
  • Government ID — Aadhaar-based e-KYC through a licensed verification provider, which confirms your legally verified name and date of birth.
  • Professional details — information from the LinkedIn profile you choose to connect, such as your workplace and career history.

Collected automatically

  • Device and technical information, such as device type, operating system, app version, IP address, and crash logs.
  • Basic request logs kept by our hosting provider when you visit milann.app.

03How we use your data

  • Run the Service — create your account, show your profile, and deliver messages.
  • Verify identity — confirm that every member is a real, unique person, and prevent catfishing, deepfakes, and fake or duplicate accounts.
  • Suggest matches — calculate compatibility from your preferences and the details you share.
  • Keep members safe — check messages and images automatically, including before they are sent, investigate reports, and enforce our Community Guidelines.
  • Communicate — send beta invites, service updates, and safety notices.
  • Measure our ads — if you accept cookies on milann.app, use the Meta Pixel to see whether our ads lead to website visits and beta sign-ups.
  • Comply with the law — meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
  • Improve Milann — fix problems and make the Service better.

05Who we share it with

  • Other members — the profile you create, such as your photos, profile name, age, city, and the details you add. Other members never see your government ID, ID number, or verification data.
  • Service providers — companies that help us run Milann under contract and only on our instructions, including cloud hosting and database providers, our email provider, and our identity verification partners.
  • LinkedIn — only when you choose to connect your account.
  • Meta — only if you accept cookies on milann.app. The Meta Pixel sends Meta the pages you visit on our website, whether you joined the beta (not your name or email), and technical data such as your IP address and browser. Meta uses it to measure our ads, under its own privacy policy.
  • Authorities — when the law or a court order requires it, or to protect someone’s safety.
  • A new owner — if Milann is part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data stays protected under this policy.

We do not sell your personal data.

06Where your data is processed

Some of our service providers may store or process data outside India. We only transfer personal data in ways the DPDP Act permits, and we require our providers to protect it.

07How long we keep it

We keep your personal data while your account is active and for as long as we need it to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your data within a reasonable period. We keep some data longer only where we must — for example, to comply with the law, resolve disputes, investigate safety reports, or stop banned members from returning.

We keep beta sign-up details until we send your invite, or until you ask us to delete them.

08Your rights

Under the DPDP Act, you have the right to:

  • access information about the personal data we hold about you and how we use it;
  • correct, complete, or update inaccurate data;
  • have your data erased when it’s no longer needed or you withdraw consent;
  • withdraw consent at any time;
  • nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or become unable to;
  • have your grievances addressed.

To use any of these rights, email info@milann.app from the address linked to your account. We may need to confirm your identity first. If you’re not satisfied after contacting us, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

09Children

Milann is only for adults aged 18 and over. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we find out that we have, we’ll delete it and close the account.

10Security

We protect your personal data with safeguards such as encryption in transit and limits on who can access it. No system is completely secure. If a personal data breach affects you, we’ll notify you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.

11Cookies and local storage

With your consent, milann.app uses the Meta Pixel. It sets cookies (such as _fbp) and sends Meta information about your visit — the pages you view, whether you join the beta, and technical data such as your IP address and browser — so we can measure our advertising. It never receives your name or email address.

The pixel only loads after you choose Accept in the cookie banner. If you decline, nothing is sent to Meta. You can change your choice at any time with , which is also in the footer of every page.

The website also saves your beta sign-up and your cookie choice in your browser’s local storage, and loads fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address in order to deliver them.

12Changes to this policy

We’ll update this policy as Milann changes. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The “Last updated” date above shows when it last changed.
