Why we verify every single profile before you see it

The Milann Team · August 20, 2026

Most dating apps treat verification as an optional badge — something a fraction of users bother with, bolted on after the fact. We built Milann the other way around: no profile is visible to anyone until it has passed identity verification. It's the front door, not a nice-to-have.

Here's how it works, and why we think it changes the entire experience of dating online.

The problem verification actually solves

When profiles aren't verified, three things happen. Bots and scammers flood in. Real people get worn down deciding who to trust. And the people who are genuine start behaving defensively — holding back, assuming the worst. The whole environment tilts toward suspicion.

Verification removes the question you shouldn't have to ask on a date: is this person even real?

What Milann checks, step by step

  1. A live selfie, matched to a government ID. We confirm the person creating the profile is a real, unique human — not a recycled photo or an AI-generated face.
  2. Liveness detection. A short, on-device check that the person is present in real time, which stops photo-of-a-photo and deepfake attempts.
  3. One identity, one account. The same verified identity can't spin up multiple profiles, which is how most catfishing and harassment starts.

Only after all three pass does a profile become visible to matches.

What we deliberately don't do

Verification is about proving you're real — not about surveilling you. We don't publish your legal name, we don't show your ID to other members, and we handle everything in line with India's DPDP Act. The goal is trust between members, not a data grab.

Verified doesn't mean public. It means the person on the other side is exactly who they say they are — and nothing more is exposed than you choose to share.

Why this matters more than a bigger match pile

It's tempting to chase volume — more profiles, more swipes, more "matches." But a hundred unverified matches aren't worth one conversation with someone you can actually trust. Verification is how we keep Milann small in the ways that matter and real in the ways that count.

If you're tired of wondering who's on the other side of the screen, that's exactly the problem we built Milann to fix.
